Bible Class & Movie Assignments

So in my Bible class we have this awesome assignment…we have to watch 4 movies! The downfall…we have to write a 4 page paper on each one! I know that you’re wondering why we do these papers…so I’m going to tell you. We watch a movie & try to find different worldviews expressed in that movie. So far we have finished The Matrix & today we started Dead Poets Society. We are also going to watch I-Robot & Reguarding Henry. I hope to review all of these movies. Just giving you guys a heads up on what’s to come. Thanks for reading!

Hocus Pocus

Okay…this is probably the best movie ever! I absolutely LOVE it! It stars Bette Midler as Winifred Sanderson, Kathy Najimi as Mary Sanderson, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson, Omri Katz as Max Dennison, Thora Birch as Dani Dennison, & Vinessa Shaw as Allison. So I pretty much know every line by heart! It starts out in 1693 in a small village. Winnie, Mary, & Sarah are witches. They plan to force every child to drink this potion they made. It causes the child’s “life force” to be released. They inhale the force & become younger. Emily Binx is their first victim. They try to catch her big brother Thackery but instead of taking his life force they change him into a black cat. The witches are hanged but before they die, Winnie casts a spell that will bring them back to life if a virgin lights the black flame candle. After the witches are hanged, it goes to 1993 (300 years later). Max, Dani, & Allison snoop around the old Sanderson house as curious kids do. Max lights the candle & BAM! the wiches are back. The rest of the movie is about the 3 kids trying to kill the witches again before they can get their hands on more children to “suck the life out of”. It’s such a funny movie! I recommend this movie to anyone who likes comedy. It’s rated PG & there are a few cuss words…5 or 6 maybe. The witches may seem scary as well. Hope you all enjoy this movie as much as I do! Oh yeah…almost every time I hang out with Patty, we watch this movie! We love it!

The Last Mimzy

I was very impressed with this movie! I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but I Loved It! It stars Chris O’Neil as Noah Wilder, Rhiannon Leigh Wryn as Emma Wilder, Joely Richardson as Jo Wilder, Richard Hutton as David Wilder, Rainn Wilson as Larry White, Kathryn Hahn as Naomi Scwhartz, & Michael Clarke Duncan as Nathanial Broadman. It was slow at first but then I really got into it! It’s about 2 kids who find a mysterious shaped box on the beach while on vacation. They open it up without telling anyone & all of a sudden they are geniuses! Emma finds a bunny called a Mimzy inside the box while her brother Noah is asleep. Mimzy teaches her things. She’s the last Mimzy that will ever be sent…hence the title. Mimzies have been sent back through time several times before to aid in research that goes on in the future but none have returned. The movie is very well written & worth seeing! It’s rated PG. It’s full of science fiction & some way out there ideas but it’s very interesting! I recommend this movie to people of all ages. Make sure kids understand that no one can travel time & that this is a fictional movie before allowing them to see it. Enjoy!

Nim’s Island

This movie is rated PG. It stars Abigail Breslin as Nim Rusoe, Gerard Butler as Jack Rusoe and Alex Rover, & Jodie Foster as Alexandra Rover. I absolutely loved this movie! It was funny, dramatic, & not as childish as I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed it very much! It’s about this girl (Nim) & her dad (Jack) who live on an island alone. Don’t worry, a supply ship brings them the essentials! It’s kept a secret from everyone except the ship’s crew…until Nim needs help from Alexandra. Nim is in love with books about Alex Rover. He’s adventurous & very much like Nim…which I believe is the reason she loves the books! She gets a surprise when the writer whose name is Alex Rover is actually a woman! Alexandra is quite the germaphobe & hates to leave her apartment! When Nim is in trouble she does however leave & finds Nim on her island. Jack gets lost at sea & from there I can’t really go into detail unless I want to give stuff away. I recommend this movie to all ages! It’s a great family movie with a great message!

This movie was…interesting to say the least. It stars James McAvoy as Robbie Turner, Keira Knightley as Cecilia Tallis, Saoirse Ronan as 13-Year-Old Briony Tallis, & Romola Garai as 18-Year-Old Briony Tallis. This movie is set in the mid 1930’s & continues on up through the 1940’s. It also skips to recent day in the end. It starts out with a HUGE misunderstanding! Briony…who’s 13 at the time…sees something that she takes as something totally different than it actually was. She then thinks that the guy both she & her older sister have a crush on, is a sex addict. He gets arrested eventually from someone lying about something. He’s then given a choice of prison or go into the army…he chooses the army. I can’t really tell you what happens next because that would totally ruin the rest of the movie! It was confusing at first but it got cleared up later on towards the end. Keep in mind that it is rated R for several reasons: sexual content & language. It’s definitely not for anyone under the age of 16 or 17 to see! You have to be very mature while watching it because it does contain some mature things!

eclipse.jpgOhmygosh! Definitely my fave of the 3 books out so far! It was exciting & kept me interested! I almost didn’t want it to end because the 4th book in the series doesn’t come out until August 2 of this year! That’s a long wait to find out what happens next to Edward, Bella, & the rest of the vamps! In this book, Bella is pretty much torn between Edward & Jacob. It’s pretty much a battle between the boys for Bella’s love as well. I can’t go into much detail because it could spoil EVERYTHING! I can say that we meet new werewolves & vamps. It isn’t a great situation that we meet them in but it’s very exciting to say the least! If you’ve read the first 2…you HAVE to read this one! By book 2 I was totally hooked! I can’t stop wondering what will happen next! I have my thoughts about Bella’s future with Edward & what will happen to them in the 4th book. I think I’m addicted! I totally recommend this book & the entire series to anyone who loves romance & vampires! I enjoyed this book & hope all those who read it will too!

Spring Break

Over my spring break I had some fun & some time to just chill out. I came home from school on Friday & did nothing. It felt so good! Saturday I babysat & spent the night at Lori’s…whose kids I was keeping track of. Sunday we went to church since it was Easter…got new clothes for church too (what girl doesn’t love that?!). Monday I slept, watched movies & played with my dogs. Tuesday My best friend Marie came over. We got our hair cut together, went to see my mom, went to see Amanda, then went to Wal-Mart & Cato. She came to dinner with us too. It was such a fun day! Wednesday I didn’t feel that great. I had to babysit Jess during my illness because she too was sick…or so she said. Thursday I got to see my uncle who lives in Kentucky. He came in for a couple of days. It was so much fun! He has an awesome car! Dad & I cooked dinner that night…we made chicken. Yummy! Friday he, my dad, my grandma, & myself all went to Steve & Barry’s in Tanglewood then went to Michael’s by Valley View. After that we went to the Hub for dinner with the usual crowd that hangs there on Friday nights.  Saturday morning my uncle left…=*(. After he left, my dad dropped me off at the Hub for breakfast with my mom & our “family” as we always do on Saturday mornings. Marie picked me up on Saturday afternoon & we headed for her house. We went to the store for pizzas first though. We watched movies while Patty was out babysitting. When she got home, we went downstairs & laughed until 3 AM…no lie! Sunday we went to church…well I only stayed for Sunday School because my mom & her fiancee came to pick me up. After they picked me up, we went to Joe’s Pizza for their breakfast buffet that’s so good! Then we went to Wal-Mart. After that, they dropped me off at my house. I studied my verses & watched movies while they were at Chancie’s watching the race. That’s my entire Spring Break…not in a nutshell exactly. That’s such a detailed kind of play-by-play schedule of how my Spring Break went. I’m sorry if I bored you guys. Hope you all had a great break as well!
