I reviewed the documentary that sparked this movie & now I’m going to review the movie. It’s rated PG-13 for language, teen drinking & smoking, & dramatic elements. It stars Emile Hirsch as Jay “Jay Boy” Adams, Victor Rasuk as Tony “Mad Dog” Alva, John Robinson as Stacy Peralta, & Heath Ledger as Skip Engblom. If you read my review of the documentary, you understand that this movie is about the spark of skateboarding as a true sport. It is such a great film! I loved how Stacy Peralta wrote in real incidences to make the film seem more realistic. Some elements are different than explained in the documentary but that’s expected. He had to change up some of the names in the film & I’m not sure why. I was pleased to see the actors they picked to play Jay, Tony, & Stacy had lots of similarities to the real people! The facial expressions, the way the actors held their mouths, the voices, it was all just too real! I recommend this movie to anyone who saw the documentary & who love skateboarding or surfing.
