Worldview Seminar – Nov. 6, 2007

Today we had a seminar type of thing at school. The kids were from Bryan College in Dayton, TN. Here are some of the things we discussed…

A worldview is a set of basic beliefs we have, whether we know it or not, that determine our view of and for the world.

A person’s worldview is important because it’s how they interpret reality. If they interpret reality wrong, then they may not be able to live according to the way the Bible tells us to live.

I have realized many times that worldviews are presented to me every second of every day & sometimes I don’t realize it until after they have been shown to me.

I was visiting a friend’s church 1 day this past month & 1 of the girls in the youth mentioned how her friend was an atheist but she was a good person. She believes that because her friend is a good person that she will go to Heaven. Thank goodness I have had Mr. Miller for 4 years of Bible class! I knew exactly what to say to argue her statement. Salvation = Faith + Nothing! Without your faith that Jesus died & rose for our sins, you can’t go to Heaven! I hope that I changed her mind! Thanks Mr. Miller for teaching me these things! I hope this proves that I pay attention in his classes!

The students mentioned that most Christians don’t realize that they are worldview thinkers. I thought that most Christians realized that but obviously I was wrong!

The presentation showed me that I need to pay closer attention to the world around me! There were so many things I never realized worldviews were shown in, such as TV shows & music, that they mentioned. Hopefully now I will pay closer attention to people I talk to, shows & movies I watch, and music I listen to so I can analyze if they are discussing a certain worldview or just singing what people write for them.

Thanks to the Worldview Team of Bryan College for coming to such a small, private, Christian school like ours to explain worldviews to us! I know I learned a lot & hope others did as well!
